Yesterday was a cool day - I got my first article/blog published in Grind Pretty's digital magazine, and it's officially live! I wrote about how to eat clean while-on-the-go and so I wanted to share it on my own blog as well for you to read! Enjoy!
Let’s be honest: eating clean and healthy in general is already a challenging task – but trying to do so while traveling or on-the-go? That is even harder! Many of the fast food chains out there provide only food options that are FULL of chemicals and preservatives, so it is extremely difficult to find anything to eat that is not going to harm your health. Did you know that a McDonald’s happy meal will still look the EXACT same, even 8 years later, because of all the chemicals in it to help it stay preserved? That’s gross if you ask me.
I’m here to tell you from my own personal experience that it has taken quite some time to figure out the best ways to fuel my body when I’m in hustle mode, but options are out there, I promise! Your goal is to eat snacks or meals that will keep your blood sugar balanced and prevent you from grabbing the first thing you see just to satisfy that “hunger” craving. NO idea where to start? I’m here to help:
Tips For Eating Healthy On-The-Go:
Prep Your Food The Night Before
Freeze your smoothie, chop up your vegetables, prepare your mason-jar-salad, package your trail mix – a little extra time at night saves you all of the stress in the morning when you are running out the door.
Re-Use Leftovers
Make an extra serving when cooking dinner and save the other half for lunch the next day! Simply throw in some fresh veggies or add on some fresh dressing and it’s just like new! I won’t lie, leftovers took me a while to warm up to, but now I always strive to make larger meals so I have a second one ready to go without having to think about it.
Focus On Eating Foods That Won’t Spike Your Blood Sugar
Your goal is to fuel your body with foods that are full of healthy proteins, fats, fibers or greens to prevent your blood sugar from spiking, which only leads to you feeling constantly hungry throughout the day (ever feel like you have to eat every hour or experience a 3PM slump?). To do this: avoid fast food, processed grains, sugars and limit your fruit intake!
